Flame and Dreams

Leaves the color of flame and dreams
Mimic the carefree laughter of our children
But when our backs are turned and the sun fades
Their impersonations turn to incantations
That whisper through our minds
As we walk the streets as dark as sin.

As we walk the streets as dark as sin
Wayward spirits wander over our graves.
As they trail their razor sharp nails as cold as ice
Down the valleys of our stiff spines they beseech us
Hurry home darlings and whatever you do pay no heed
To the leaves the color of flame and dreams
